However, painting today must break from tradition, cast new ways of seeing and experiencing paint. Each image is a large silhouette (4’ x 8’) cut from a specially prepared presswood and plywood “sandwich.” The work rises from the floor free of any visible support. The non-rectangular format forces the audience to view the painting as a painting in a real environment.
The philosophical part of my work is based on the dichotomy between perception and reality. We are all experiencing imagery overload from our monitors, movies and TV. The link between the thin slice of image and reality is severed.
My paintings explore that thin slice of image. There is no thickness to the art; the front and back images rise from the floor as one.
